Intern — Developer Success Engineer

Software Engineering
Toronto, ON, Canada
About Nmbr:
Nmbr is building the first global payroll infrastructure provider, starting in Canada. We’re building a foundational layer that unlocks the evolution of payroll products in markets where traditional dynamics stifled innovation. Everyone in the world who works gets paid, and yet most are still getting paid through archaic systems. Together we will change that, impacting millions of lives across every continent on earth.
The Role:
We're looking for an Engineering Intern to join us as a Developer Success Engineer — the technical bridge between our product and the partners building on top of it. Reporting directly to our CTO, you'll champion the developers using our platform by building with our APIs, writing the guides that teach others how to use them, and providing hands-on technical guidance to partners as they build their own embedded payroll products.
This role is a unique opportunity to accelerate your career by receiving direct mentorship from a group of seasoned engineering leaders, including former CTOs and founders, while collaborating with a wide variety of external engineering teams in a high leverage role.
What You'll Do
- Build & Test ("Dogfooding"): Learn our API inside and out by actively using it to build and maintain a functional payroll product as a primary test case.
- Create Developer Resources: Write crystal-clear, highly technical guides and documentation that help our partners integrate our API and embeddable components effectively.
- Technical Partner Support: Serve as the first line of technical support for our partners, answering architectural and implementation questions as they build.
- Product Feedback Loop: Translate partner questions and pain points into actionable feedback for our core engineering and product teams to improve the Nmbr platform.
What We’re Looking For
- Education: Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field at a top academic program.
- Technical: Hands-on experience (academic, personal projects, or prior internships) with REST APIs, React, and AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor.
- Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English. You can explain complex technical concepts simply and enjoy engaging with people.
- Location: You must reside in Canada.
- Drive: You're a builder who loves solving puzzles, helping others succeed, and thriving in a fast-paced startup environment.
Compensation & Perks
- Salary: Competitive internship compensation
- Work Environment: 3–4 days per week in our downtown Toronto office, with flexibility to work remotely.
- Growth: Unmatched mentorship from successful tech founders and technical leaders.
